The vision of the national Center to Improve Social and Emotional Learning and School Safety is that when all children are educated in places of equity, safety, and learning, and when they receive the integrated academic, social, and emotional supports that meet their individual needs, then they can achieve their greatest potential in K-12 education, as well as in college, career, and life.

As of October 2023, the Center is no longer funded by the U.S. Department of Education. We offer this archived site as a resource for state and local education leaders interested in advancing their work to support social and emotional development and well-being and other initiatives related to serving the whole person for students and educators. Read a farewell note from our director, Natalie Walrond.

Browse our pages to find resources produced and curated by the Center; information about our state Peer Collaboratives; and archived State Profiles on SEL, school climate, and school safety.

We’re still here to support you! Please email [email protected] to get in touch with the team that led the Center.

Peer Collaboratives

As part of our targeted tier of technical assistance, the Center offers peer-to-peer collaborative opportunities for SEAs and LEAs to work on a shared problem of practice relevant to the broader field. This work yields co-designed and participant-tested tools and resources that are then disseminated more broadly to the field.

Resources

In addition to the tools, resources, and publications that the SEL Center authors, we also review and curate the work of others who offer research-based approaches to social and emotional learning and school safety. Below, we offer a selection of resources to help the field identify and select evidence-based programs and practices.

Our Work

The Center intends to expand the knowledge and capacity of the field to integrate evidence-based social and emotional learning (SEL) and school safety practices and programs to support students’ success throughout their K-12 experience and beyond. To do so, the Center will offer three-tiered technical assistance.
